Ramsgate Dentist Explains the Benefits of All-on-Four Dental Implants

There are several reasons why you should consider getting all-on-four dental implants. Are you suffering from severe tooth loss? Do you wear dentures, but wish there was a more permanent solution? We’ve got an amazing innovation to tell you about – all-on-four dental implants!

All-on-four dental implants allow you to replace an entire arch, top or bottom, using only 4 dental implants! It’s a total dental solution that many people have been waiting a long time for – and there are so many benefits!
Read on to learn how all-on-four dental implants can improve your life!

A Full Set of Natural-Looking Teeth

Would you love to have a full natural-looking smile? Would you like the confidence to smile again with a full mouth of straight teeth? All-on-four dental implants allow you to have that. During the dental implant procedure, four implants are strategically placed. They are embedded into the jawbone.

Then, a full arch of teeth is fitted to the four implants. There is no need for an implant for each crown. The four implants can hold the entire arch securely in place. The porcelain crowns mimic the translucent appearance of natural teeth. In one procedure, you will gain a full set of teeth. You can have all-on-four dental implants on both the upper and lower jaw, for a complete, beautiful smile.

Secure, Comfortable Teeth

If you’ve been suffering from severe tooth loss, eating may have been very uncomfortable. Although dentures are a big help, they still do not provide the same security as natural teeth. Dental implant treatment is the next best thing to having natural teeth. The dental implant anchors an arch of false teeth securely in place. This means they are secure and will not shift. They are also permanent. No need to worry about putting them in or taking them out. No worries about adhesives anymore!

A Stronger Bite

It might have been years since you’ve been able to bite into an apple. What about snacking on a handful of nuts? Denture wearers know that these foods are strictly off-limits. With all-on-four dental implants, you can enjoy all of your favourite foods again. One of the major dental implant benefits is that they give you plenty of biting power. You will be able to bite down and chew without worrying about your teeth moving out of place.

Health Benefits

When you no longer have your natural teeth, the strength of your jawbone may begin to deteriorate. Over time, you may find that the appearance of your face changes, and according to a report on healthdirect, the muscles in the face can start sagging. All-on-four dental implants allow you to continue to apply pressure to your jawbone through chewing and biting. This pressure helps to maintain the bone in a healthy state. They also help you retain the natural appearance of your face.

Different Types of Braces to Straighten Your Teeth

When you decide to get braces, your doctor will recommend the type that you need, or they may have you choose from a couple different kinds due to the different pricing as well as the type of care and appointments involved with your care. After all, you want something that also fits your lifestyle.

Traditional Metal Braces

This is probably what you think about when you think of braces. The dentist or assistant will glue metal brackets to your teeth through which they’ll thread a metal wire in the way that needs to be done so that the right pressure is applied to slowly force your teeth into the place the dentist wants them to be in.

Ceramic Braces Solution

These braces aren’t offered as much because they’re not as popular due to the cost and the problems they have with staining. They start out practically invisible, but eventually they may start looking dirty. Many patients don’t like that. You will sometimes see colored metal wires with this as well as the traditional type braces.

Lingual Braces

This is just a metal brace that is on the inside of your teeth – behind them instead of on the top. Because of this, they’re not considered as effective, but for some patients, especially those with protruding teeth and an overbite, this style may work better and be more comfortable. Some performers will get this type so that when they’re smiling in photos and on film you cannot see them.

Self-Ligating

These use a combination of metal and ceramic materials with a wire and bracket system. It is the most popular type that is used today. The good thing about them is that they use brackets with clips instead of rubber bands. They tend to have fewer spaces for food to slip into and you can get them in a variety of colors.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

You probably see commercials for something like this where you can order it yourself without the help of a dentist or orthodontist. These are not good for people with serious issues, but they can and do work well for people who need flexible treatment options and can’t get to the doctor for tightening as the system can be made in advance, and the patient switches the braces on their own.

Choosing the right type of braces needs to be a discussion you have with your dentist as well as your family due to the costs, which are often not fully covered by insurance. Most of the time, insurance pays for only a percentage of the treatment. Give us a call to book a Free Smile Assessment with Dr. Rammo to find out if braces are right for you. He is a Diamond Level Provider with Invisalign and over the years has performed thousands of treatments. During your Free Consultation, he will also go over your clear braces options for new patients including Invisalign clear aligners.

Why you Should Choose a Dentist to Whiten your Smile

With so many tooth whitening options readily available in supermarkets and cosmetic clinics

it has become extremely difficult to choose an effective whitening option!

There are many do-it-yourself teeth whitening products available such as toothpastes, gels and whitening strips, but these products are usually quite ineffective at whitening your smile, and in many cases if not properly applied can be quite dangerous.

Receiving a whitening treatment at a dental practice is the best way to ensure that you are receiving a cosmetic treatment that is both effective and safe.

Dentists are trained to diagnose the cause of discolouration and from this information can determine what bleaching method will be most effective whilst retaining the health of your teeth and gums. Your teeth may even be discoloured internally, which would mean that your teeth will need to be brightened from the inside out- a task that no do-it-yourself or salon whitening treatment can achieve.

This is why we provide professional tooth whitening at our dental practice located in Ramsgate Beach, Sydney

One of the whitening products we offer is the Zoom! Tooth Whitening System, the most requested professional whitening system in the world. Four million smiles are a testament to the power of Zoom! Tooth Whitening System, with this procedure effectively erasing the negative signs of coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco consumption, along with the effects of aging and some medications.

Performed in the dentist’s chair in less than one hour, a special gel is applied to teeth and then heated with LED lighting techniques to create a photo thermal reaction

The Zoom! Tooth Whitening System contains the active ingredient hydrogen peroxide, and during this reaction the peroxide breaks down, allowing oxygen to enter the enamel and dentine of the teeth, bleaching coloured substances to white, whilst leaving the structure of the tooth unchanged. A five minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure, and in most cases – your teeth get even whiter in the days following your treatment!

This procedure is safe and painless, with the gums and soft tissue of the mouth protected during the entire treatment. Results are dramatic and natural looking, with teeth transforming up to eight shades lighter in one treatment.

What Is World Oral Health Day And Why Is it Important?

Oral hygiene is a very serious issue, with around 3.5 billion people around the world affected by oral diseases. Most oral diseases are progressive health conditions that develop slowly over time. Early intervention is key to avoiding serious issues like tooth decay.

But how do we spread awareness about basic hygiene techniques and ways to prevent oral disease? World Oral Health Day was founded over ten years ago to raise global awareness regarding oral health. This year, it falls on Sunday, 20th of March.

This guide will discuss everything you need to know about the annual event and the ways justSMILE is promoting good oral hygiene habits.

What Is World Oral Health Day?

World Oral Health Day (WOHD) was founded on September 12, 2007, by the FDI World Dental Federation. The original date of the annual holiday was on the birthday of the FDI founder, Dr. Charless Godon.

The campaigns surrounding the holiday weren’t completely activated until 2013. The date was changed to 20th March so there wasn’t any conflict with the FDI World Dental Congress that takes place in September.

The date of 20th March was chosen because:

  • Children need to have 20 baby teeth.
  • Seniors need to have 20 of their natural teeth when they pass to be thought of as healthy.
  • A healthy adult needs to have 32 teeth and zero cavities.
  • Those concepts expressed in a numerical way can be translated to 20/3, resulting in 20th of March.

World Oral Health Day has evolved over time. It’s now recognized by patients and dentists in over 70 countries around the world. The holiday is one of the most important health causes in our time.

Each year the holiday has a specific theme. For example, in 2020, the theme was “Say Ahh: Unite for Mouth Health.”

The FDI World Dental Federation announced a three-year theme that started in 2021. The theme that runs through 2023 is “Be Proud of Your Mouth.”

While World Oral Health Day is a global phenomenon, healthcare practitioners and dentists typically promote the day within their own communities. They’ll work alongside local groups to connect with community members about their oral hygiene plan.

Why Is It Important?

Our mouths are a massage for a variety of things. These items include:

  • Food
  • Germs
  • Essential nutrients
  • Bacteria

No matter your age, it’s important to look after your oral health. There are many oral diseases a person can suffer from that can negatively affect our health.

Due to a large number of people suffering from oral diseases throughout their life, the dental experts behind World Oral Health Day have determined that there is a lack of basic dental hygiene habits getting established during a person’s childhood. It might not seem like a major problem if there is a lapse in your oral health. However, if bad habits are left unnoticed or incorrect, a small issue can evolve into a larger problem.

What Are Common Oral Health Problems?

What oral issues can arise if bad oral hygiene habits are left unnoticed? Oral diseases tend to grow slowly but become very bad when they’re in their late stages.

Some common oral health problems include:

  • Bad Breath: Caused by dry mouth, gum diseases, cavities, or an excess of bacteria.
  • Tooth Decay: Excessive bacteria cause your tooth or teeth to deteriorate.
  • Gingivitis: Minor or introductory type of gum disease.
  • Periodontal Disease: Gum disease in its advanced stage.
  • Oral Cancer: Aggressive form of cancer that might have fatal consequences.

How to Commemorate World Oral Health Day?

Looking for what to do on World Oral Health Day? There are several steps you can take to promote the holiday and increase your overall oral health.

Visit Your Local Dentist

Making regular appointments with your dentist isn’t just about maintenance. These checkups are key to preventing serious oral health issues. They’ll also save you money and time in the future.

Your dentist can notice diseases in their early stages. They can also help you establish healthy oral hygiene habits.

Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

Brushing your teeth is a great step to keeping your teeth clean between visits to your dentist. You should brush twice a day for two minutes each time. You should floss your teeth as well.

Protect Your Teeth

Dental sealants are an effective and safe coating that sticks to your back teeth where you’d normally chew. They can help prevent tooth decay. You can also wear mouthguards at night and during sports to protect your teeth.

Incorporate a Healthy Diet

What you eat plays a part in the health of your body, gums, and teeth. Sugar can cause cavities. The acid produced by sugar can result in holes in your teeth’s enamel.

Eating healthy foods that are high in calcium can improve the strength of your teeth.

How Is justSMILE Promoting WOHD?

At justSMILE, we encourage our patients to visit us twice a year for routine dental exams. Our general dental services are key to improving your body’s overall health.

Our preventative services include professional teeth cleanings and x-rays. We also offer a preventative dental plan where we give you instructions on how to take care of your teeth and gums at home.

While our goal is to prevent oral health issues before they arise, we know that isn’t always the case. We offer a variety of restorative services to help bring your healthy smile back. Once we’ve remedied the oral health issues in your mouth, we’ll move on to the preventative dental plan to avoid any future problems.

Whether you’re a new patient or have been one for several years, don’t skip a routine dental checkup. Schedule one with justSMILE today.

Make an Appointment for a General Dental Checkup

There’s no better way to celebrate World Oral Health Day than by making an appointment for a dental checkup. Avoid serious dental issues by having your teeth and gums examined by one of Sydney’s most experienced dentists in the area.

Contact us today to schedule an appointment for a routine dental exam.

Open for Business Covid Update 23rd April

Australian Dental Association Lifts Level 3 Restrictions for Dental Practices

I would like with great pleasure to break the news that the restrictions on dental treatments has been dropped from level 3 to level 2.

We are still as strict as ever about disinfection and sterilization but at least we can now offer wider range of dental treatments.

To all our patients that had to stop or pause their Invisalign treatment; good news Invisalign and any related orthodontic treatment is now allowed.

We’ve decided to keep offering virtual consults as they are proving to be very popular.

We are taking prior bookings for Invisalign consults and making sure that all treatments are lined up to be started immediately.

Needless to say, this doesn’t mean that we should let or guards down; do practice social distancing and good general hygiene.

Do the right thing and stay safe, remember if you have any dental concerns just get in touch with us.”

Regards,
Dr Rammo

Coronavirus Safety and Our Dental Practice

Coronavirus and Safety at your Local Dental Clinic

If you are like me, about 50% of your conscious life these days can be summed up in one word: Coronavirus. As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is evolving, we want all of our wonderful new patients and existing patients to know that we are staying informed and are following all precautions to keep our patients and staff safe. I also want to reassure our patients that the risk of exposure to the virus in our dental surgery is extremely low to nil. We have always practiced and continue to practice “Universal Precaution”. This means that we sterilise all our instruments and disinfect all clinical and reception areas in between every patient to ensure that all viral and bacterial cross contamination is not possible, not just for the current Coronavirus, but for all communicable diseases. Our staff are fully trained and certified to do this to the highest “Hospital” standards (click the link for more information on our infection control protocols).

This ensures the utmost safety for all our patients, staff and our families. There are many websites that has information on COVID-19. However, I urge everyone to only use reputable sources like the Australian Medical Association website to ensure you have the most accurate and up to date information.

YOUR SAFETY IS OUR MAIN PRIORITY

What specifically are we doing at our practice to protect patients? Our strict protocol includes our font desk manager establishing if patients have:

  • A fever/history of fever AND shortness of breath or a cough or a sore throat.
  • Severe acute respiratory infection.
  • Travelled overseas in the last 2 weeks, especially to China, Iran and South Korea, where the number of infected cases has risen dramatically.
  • Been in close contact with anyone who has had confirmed Coronavirus (Covid-19) or who has been in a health facility treating them.

We urge that patients relating to the above hold off urgent dental treatment for at least 2 weeks after the potential exposure. This is also applicable to all our staff members

VIRAL PRECAUTION

Our strict protocol includes assessing if patients:

– Have a fever/history of fever AND shortness of breath or a cough or a sore throat.
Severe acute respiratory infection.
– They have traveled overseas in the last 2 weeks, especially to China, Iran and South Korea, where the number of infected cases has risen dramatically.
– Been in close contact with anyone who has had confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) or who has been in a health facility treating them. We urge that patients relating to the above hold off urgent dental treatment for at least 2 to 4 weeks after the potential exposure. This is also applicable to all staff members.

Our Protocol Effective immediately:

  • If you have been overseas recently, you will be required to delay your appointments for at least 14 days from your arrival to Australia.
  • Any patients who has been overseas at high-risk countries where the virus is spreading fast such as Italy, Iran & South Korea will be requested to delay their appointments for a recommended period of 28 days from the date of their arrival to Australia. More countries will be added or removed from the list in future updates depending on the close monitoring of the situation.
  •  Patients who have any cold or flu like symptoms are required to delay their appointments until they have fully recovered.
  •  A sign will be placed at the reception desk as a reminder to any patients of the above requirements.

What can you do to help limit the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19)?

  • Hand hygiene. The single most important protection is to make sure that you are washing your hands before touching food or your face.
  • Don’t touch your face. This limits the virus from entering your mouth and eyes, thus infecting your lungs.
  • If you do cough or sneeze, make sure that it is into a disposable tissue or the nook of your elbow.
  • If you are unwell, wear a mask to stop the spread of any infection to others.
  • The use of masks should be limited to medical/health personnel.

Once again, I assure you that, your safety and our staff’s safety is our utmost priority. If you have any other questions, please contact us.  Be safe and I look forward to seeing you again soon at your next dental visit.
