Whitening FAQ's

Will whitening harm my teeth and gums?

No, tooth whitening has been around for many years now and the research has proven it is safe for your teeth and gums as long as the procedure is carried out as specifically directed.

Should I have tooth whitening before or after my crown, bridge or implant?

If you are considering tooth whitening, you should discuss this with us before we proceed with any major dental work. We suggest that whitening is carried out first, so the artificial tooth or teeth can be matched to the shade your teeth will be after your whitening procedure.

How long do whitened teeth retain the lighter colour?

Dependent on how you care for your teeth and the type of discoloration. The teeth will always be lighter than they were. However, some patients may need periodic re-whitening every one to two years, especially if you continue to use staining substances like caffeine, wine or tobacco products.

Are there side effects to the tooth whitening treatment?

Sometimes patients may experience tooth hypersensitivity or gum irritations from the concentrated gel. However, as long as our detailed instructions are followed, the majority of patients have no side effects.
