ZOOM! Teeth Whitening is an effective teeth whitening procedure

zoom

ZOOM! Teeth Whitening reduces the amount of discolouration that affects the appearance of your smile. Discolouration is a common problem that is caused by a variety of issues. It can be caused by diet, medications and habits such as smoking which is why your dentist will recommend avoiding foods such as:

  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Sauces
  • Balsamic vinegar and other similar dark condiments

These foods and drinks heavily contribute to discolouration, although there are many other foods which can also contribute to acidity and can ruin your enamel. This can make your teeth look yellow and discoloured due to the exposed dentine, however it’s important to know that this cannot be fixed by teeth whitening. It’s also important that you visit Dr Rammo so that he can recommend the best way to fix this problem.

ZOOM! Teeth Whitening is a procedure that is performed in-chair which takes approximately one hour to complete. This is one of the fastest whitening procedures, although we also provide take-home whitening for your convenience which can be used as a maintenance treatment or as your main whitening treatment.

Crowns can be fitted to your natural teeth

crowns Dr Rammo is a cosmetic dentist in Ramsgate that can help treat cosmetic problems which also have health benefits. If your tooth has become injured or severely decayed then Dr Rammo can custom make a porcleain crown which will be fitted over your natural teeth. Any decay will be cleared away before your crown is bonded, and your natural tooth will also be filed down. As you can see Dr Rammo can create natural looking crowns that blend in with your natural teeth.

Dental Implants can fill in gaps in your smile

Dental implants are an equal mix of cosmetic and restorative treatments, and are designed to replace adult teeth that have been extracted or fallen out. justSMILE uses NobelBiocare implants which are used for a range of purposes including singular and multiple tooth replacements. This means that if you are deciding to swap for full arch implant supported dentures we can install your implants for you and even create brand new dentures that fit perfectly with the size of your jaw and appear natural.

As you can see this patient had a missing front tooth which is an extremely distracting tooth to lose. It is also important to replace missing teeth as a missing tooth can cause your jaw bone to deteriorate and more teeth to become loose.

Dr Rammo – the cosmetic dentist at justSMILE can provide any of these cosmetic solutions to you at his Ramsgate dental practice.

The Importance of Carefully Selecting Your Dental Implant Dentist

Dental Surgery: Any surgical procedure requires skill

which is why it’s important to think about your safety when selecting a dental surgeon

This month in Italy a woman found herself with an unusual problem that went beyond a general dental emergency. She was experiencing significant discomfort and thought that nasal issues were due to a cold or flu which she contracted. Her situation however was far worse than a head cold, as doctors later found that there was in fact a dental implant embedded in her left sinus. Although titanium (what a dental implant is made out of) is biocompatible it’s definitely not ideal to have one anywhere except for your jawbone.

Here at Just Smile in Ramsgate we can replace a missing tooth with a dental implant and implant crown which look and feel like a natural tooth. Dr Rammo’s years of surgical experience allow him to perform the dental implant procedure with higher success rates.

When it comes to the Italian woman, what has happened is a failed dental implant procedure – where the implant has failed to integrate with the jaw bone. The implant then most likely made its way into the sinus while the patient was asleep. Here at Just Smile we will be with you every step of the way and will recommend check-ups so that we can monitor the progress of the osseointegration (where the bone and implant fuse).

What are the success rates of dental implants?

Dental Implant Success Rate branded

These statistics depend on a number of factors including the health of the patient at the time of surgery and the age of the patient. In order to maximise the success rate of your dental implant procedure it’s important to be the healthiest you can be. This means quitting smoking, eating healthy and taking care of your oral health. You should also have a thorough understanding of the procedure and what materials your dentist uses.

Dr Rammo uses the NobelGuide Dental Implant System

The 3D capabilities of the NobelGuide System allow Dr Rammo to perform a more accurate placement of your dental implants. This advanced system shows the exact position and depth where your dental implant should be placed. This also enables simultaneous placement of your implant and your restorative implant crown so that you can enjoy the full functionality of your mouth as soon as possible.

Missing a tooth? Book a dental implant consultation today

There’s a Gap in Your Mouth; Every Tooth Is Invited!

Teeth hate a vacant seat and they will go as far as to migrate to fill the void left by missing teeth…

Did you know that in the event of a missing tooth over time your remaining teeth can actually move to fill the gap the missing tooth left behind? It’s true! It is called tooth migration and it is damaging to your oral health, your remaining teeth and the overall appearance of your smile. Do you have missing teeth? Are your remaining teeth moving to the left or the right in an effort to fill the void? It’s time to visit us at Just Smile and talk about filling the gap with a dental implant.

Why do teeth migrate?

Before we get into the reason teeth migrate it is important to note that as an adult you have thirty two developed teeth.

32 teeth + average adult mouth size = not much space at all!

Have a look at the inside of your mouth. The modern adult mouth has down scaled its size over the evolutionary time line and has not left us even enough space at all, especially for our wisdom teeth which get removed because our mouths cannot accommodate them!

The main reasons why the teeth would migrate in the absence of a tooth are:

  1. To gain more space (with no uniformity teeth take advantage)
  2. To make up for the absence of the missing tooth in regards to function and balance

Reason number one makes a lot of sense in regards to the size of our mouth but the second reason has more to do with the way our mouth functions. Each bottom row of teeth has an upper row of teeth to complement it. When eating, speaking or using the mouth, the teeth clash together and the power is distributed evenly between the teeth and so if a tooth is missing, your body will recognise this, and one or more of your teeth will shift to restore the symmetry.

If the teeth are migrating to fill the void and restore symmetry that is a good thing, right?

No, it really isn’t. If one or more of your teeth move to make up for the imbalance that will result in your moving teeth taking more pressure than what they are designed to take, and not being straight will reduce their ability to take pressure.

Migrating teeth can result in:

  • A crooked bite
  • A distorted bite
  • Oral hygiene problems
  • Gingivitis
  • Periodontal disease
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder
  • Overbite or under bite
  • Loose teeth
  • Deterioration of the remaining teeth

The implications are endless but luckily for you at Just Smile we have the perfect solution.

Put your teeth in their place with a dental implant…

Teeth are meant to grow up and out of the gums, not left, right, backwards or forwards so put them back in line with a dental implant. A dental implant acts as a replacement for a missing tooth root and looks exactly the same and functions as a natural tooth, with the added benefit of taking on the workload and filling the void. Your teeth will no longer have a reason or the ability to migrate!

Dental Implants:

  • Are a permanent solution
  • Look fantastic and realistic
  • Function as normal teeth
  • Require no preferential treatment – normal oral hygiene required
  • Restores the ability to speak properly
  • Stops your teeth from migrating!

Filling the void At Just Smile a dental implant can vastly improve your appearance and your oral health…

Our founding dentist Dr Rammo is a firm believer in the benefits a dental implant can give to a patient who receives them and with the NobelGuideTM dental implant system the implant will be placed with precision and accuracy. With no gaps in either your bottom row or top row of teeth none of your natural teeth will move. It’s that simple.

How Do I Look After My Dental Implants?

Making the decision to have dental implants to fill the gaps in your mouth

is a fantastic way to restore harmony and health to your smile.  As soon as you look in the mirror you’ll know it was all worth it because you’ll have wonderfully perfect teeth flashing back at you…

But post-surgery you have time to appreciate your new smile and you might be asking yourself:

‘How do I look after my dental implants to ensure they last the distance?’

If you think that you’ll have to go out of your way to make sure they stay pleasantly perfect than you are happily mistaken. Having dental implant surgery initially sounds like a vigorous ordeal that will require equally vigorous upkeep but you’ll find that the upkeep of dental implants are as easy as looking after your natural teeth.

Your new dental implants require tender loving care, just like your natural teeth…

There is no need to give them preferential treatment over your other teeth, in fact, it is better to treat them as you would the rest of your natural teeth to ensure longevity. Excellent oral hygiene and digestive awareness are all you need to maintain your dental implants and natural teeth.

It is imperative to maintain a good oral hygiene as part of your morning ritual before work and before bed. It is easy to forget to look after your mouth even if you start to experience the early warning signs of neglect but if you want to look after your new dental implants and your natural teeth it is important to start a routine.

Brushing once in the morning and once before bed will ensure that your teeth are free from debris…

According to the Australian Dental Association (ADA) you should ‘brush your teeth at least twice a day’ and that generally suggests once in the morning and once at night. The action of brushing your teeth alleviates any debris in your mouth that can cause bacteria to grow and if you do not brush your teeth for an extended period of time you may experience the following:

  • Plaque build up
  • Yellow teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Irritated gums
  • Bad taste in your mouth
  • ‘furry’ texture to teeth

And it will cause your natural teeth to really stand out from your dental implants.

Flossing every day makes Dr Rammo say “That’s excellent oral hygiene!” …

Flossing is an essential element of good oral hygiene but is usually type-casted as an optional cleaning method but did you know that there are even parts of your teeth a toothbrush can’t get to?  That is why you need to floss your teeth! Modern dental floss has the benefit of sliding seamlessly in between your teeth and leaving your mouth feeling fresh and free of hard to reach food debris. Using floss in between your dental implants and natural teeth is easy and won’t affect their placement in your mouth.

If you need some motivation remember why you got your dental implants in the first place …

If you need some motivation in order to keep yourself adhering to a daily oral hygiene regiment it is a good idea to remind yourself why you got your dental implants in the first place. Whether it was an accident or a gradual tooth loss it will still be enough motivation to remember how important it is to look after you teeth.

At JustSMILE you are important to us, before, during and after surgery. No matter the issue, we want to help you keep your smile everlasting…

Dental implants are easy to maintain after a successful surgery and just because your surgery is finished does not mean you are no longer our concern, at Just Smile we care about our patients before, during and after any cosmetic or dentofacial surgery. Brushing and flossing every day with a proper toothbrush and toothpaste combined with daily consideration of eating habits and check-ups every six months will allow us to ensure that you can enjoy your dental implants and your new smile.

  3. A (CB)CT scan is taken of the patient wearing the radiographic guide and bite index for digitalisation
  4. NobelClinician Software is used to virtually design and create the treatment plan
  5. A Surgical template is created by Nobel Biocare and is positioned in the mouth the ensure implant incision accuracy.

Have Missing Teeth? You May Be Experiencing Jaw Bone Loss

Bone loss is something that we cannot see

and the only way they can be seen are via bone density scans, but do you know the importance of bone to the teeth? How do we know if the bone is healthy if we cannot see it?

The Mandible or the lower jaw is one of the largest and strongest bones in the body and serves as the foundations for your bottom row of teeth. It is the only way the teeth can be used to turn food into a digestible paste and is a key element in creating sound so that we can communicate. Missing teeth cause bone loss and it can seriously affect the health and longevity of your surrounding jaw bone.

Signs and symptoms that you are experiencing bone loss…

Are you starting to believe that you are suffering from jaw bone loss? It is best not to jump to conclusions but if you are experiencing any number of the following you may be suffering jaw bone loss:

  1. Fatigue and low level of fitness
  2. Receding gum line
  3. Decreased strength in jaw
  4. Weak and brittle fingernails/teeth
  5. Muscle aches and jaw pain

It is important that if you are experiencing any other these symptoms to come visit us at Just Smile near the Sutherland Shire to discover the underlying reasons why you might be going through these changes.

Why do people lose jaw bone?

There are many reasons why someone might be losing bone density in their jaw besides missing teeth, it could be a genetic defect or a vitamin deficiency but some of the more serious reasons for jaw bone loss are:

  • Tooth extractions
  • Periodontal disease
  • Dentures/bridgework
  • Trauma
  • Misalignment
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Tumours
  • Development Deformities
  • Sinus Deficiencies

At our practice, we commonly find that bone loss is the result of missing teeth or previous tooth extractions. This deterioration occurs when the root structure that joins the tooth to the jaw is no longer present and the stimulation that occurs when the food is being chewed is no longer being extended to the jaw. Without this stimulation, the jaw bone is left to deteriorate from lack of use.

At Just Smile near the Sutherland Shire we prevent the jaw bone from deteriorating with a dental implant …

Missing teeth are an easy fix with a dental implant. A dental implant is an amazing way for the jaw to be restimulated by creating a fake root (titanium screw) and prosthetic root for stimulation. The procedure requires a titanium screw to be inserted into the gap for the new tooth to be attached. The jaw will eventually fuse with the titanium over time because of its biocompatible nature. This will strengthen the jaw and prevent any further deterioration.

The dental implant is the closest thing available to a natural tooth and will function, look and feel exactly like a natural tooth. If you have one or more missing teeth this is a fantastic way to prevent or stop bone loss, regain balance in your bite and prevent you from being susceptible to any oral related diseases and at JustSMILE we use the NobleGuide™ dental implant system to place your implant with extreme accuracy and ease.
