Before you take a seat and open your mouth for dental surgery we have a few things to consider. Are you ready for dental implants? This amazing advancement in dental technology is allowing people to regain the freedom of a mouth full of functioning, healthy and permanent teeth.

But before we can begin the surgery there are a few things we must discuss.

Are you committed to good dental hygiene?

Everyone is guilty of a little dental neglect now and then so don’t feel ashamed to admit you may not fully fall into this category. The reason we are bringing this question to the forefront is because it is imperative that those who are about to undergo dental implant treatments have already healthy gums, plenty of jaw bone and plaque-free teeth so that the treatment can be as effective and permanent as possible.

Displays of good dental hygiene are:

  • Brushing twice a day
  • Flossing once a day
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Eating soft foods
  • Eating food and drink with calcium
  • Rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash
  • Avoid grinding, clenching or gnawing teeth

In order to perform the surgery, the patient needs to have ample jaw bone because the titanium screw that acts as the supporting structure for the prosthetic tooth will be screwed into the bone. Not to mention, healthy gums are essential so that they do not become susceptible to gum diseases during or after surgery during recovery.

Are you a heavy smoker?

According to a study conducted by the University of Murcia in Spain, those who are heavy smokers that undergo dental implant surgery have a higher risk of infection during surgery and post-surgery, and that the consumption of more than twenty cigarettes a day increases the risk of failure to 30.8%.

Do you suffer from an uncontrollable chronic disorder such as diabetes or heart disease?

People who suffer from diabetes are prone to some form of gum disease which is likely caused by high blood glucose. Those who suffer heart disease or are prone to strokes have increased risk of gingivitis. These gum diseases can have a damaging effect on the surgery and the recovery period and have been known to cause implant failure.

Have you recently had radiation therapy to the head or neck region?

Those who have engaged in radiation therapy for the head or neck can harbour defects that will influence prosthetic treatments. It can affect the ability of the jaw to hold the implant, deteriorate the tissue supporting the dentures and affect the overall success of the surgery.

Smile Assessment & Consultation Offer

$199 Check Up & Clean Offer

  • The $199 Check Up & Clean offer includes a full examination and charting including periodontal or gum assessment with treatment recommendations and oral hygiene advice, jaw joint assessment, smile assessment, oral cancer screen, diet analysis and advice, two (2) intra-oral bitewing x-rays, scale and polish.
  • In order to provide you with the best of care and assessment, additional records may be required by the dentist at this examination appointment. Additional records may include clinical intraoral and extraoral photographs , OPG radiograph, lateral cephalometric radiograph which are not included in this deal, and may be performed during the examination process at additional charge or at the dentist’s discretion for a rebate only fee if you have private health insurance that covers the additional items. Should you object to having additional records taken, please inform the front office coordinator at the time of booking your appointment.
  • A scale and clean is provided to you assuming that there is no active gum disease such as gingivitis and periodontitis. Scale and clean does not substitute for the need of gum treatment.

Invisalign Clear Aligners Offer
