Invisalign Clear Aligners for Patients From Dover Heights

justSMILE is located at Unit 4/160 Ramsgate Rd, Ramsgate Beach NSW 2217. While we are not located in Dover Heights, we welcome and regularly treat patients from Dover Heights and the surrounding areas.

justSMILE provides Invisalign clear aligner treatment for patients from Dover Heights who want to straighten crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth without traditional metal braces.

If this has been bothering you for a while, you are not alone. Many of the patients we treat have been thinking about straightening their teeth for years before finally deciding to do something about it.

justSMILE is a Diamond Level Invisalign Provider, which is awarded to practices completing a high volume of cases each year. This level of experience is particularly valuable when planning treatment for cases that are not straightforward.

Treatment is provided by Dr Abir Rammo (Registered Dental Practitioner, DEN0001302332), a General Dentist with a focus on cosmetic and restorative dentistry. If you would like to find out whether Invisalign could work for you, call us at (02) 9159 3764 to arrange a consultation.

How Invisalign Works

Instead of brackets and wires, you wear a series of clear plastic trays that gradually shift your teeth into position over time. Each tray is slightly different from the last, nudging specific teeth a little further along according to your treatment plan.

The process starts with a 3D digital scan of your teeth (no messy impressions). This scan is used to map out the entire movement sequence from start to finish, so you can see a virtual preview of where your teeth are expected to be at each stage before treatment begins.

You wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks before switching to the next set in the series. The aligners are removable, so you take them out to eat, drink (anything other than water), brush, and floss. Treatment typically involves 20 to 30 sets of aligners, depending on how much movement is needed.

Once your teeth have reached their final position, you transition to Vivera retainers to hold the result. Retainers are an important part of the process because teeth have a natural tendency to shift back toward their original position, particularly in the first year after treatment.

What Can Invisalign Treat?

Invisalign can address a range of alignment and bite issues, though it works better for some cases than others.

Common alignment issues and how well Invisalign typically handles them
Condition How Invisalign Helps Suitability
Crowded teeth Gradually creates space and aligns teeth that overlap or are rotated Mild to moderate crowding responds well; severe crowding may need other approaches
Gaps between teeth Closes spaces by moving teeth closer together Generally very effective for spacing issues
Crooked or rotated teeth Applies targeted pressure to rotate and align individual teeth Works well for most straightforward and moderate cases
Overbite Moves upper front teeth back or lower teeth forward to reduce the overlap Effective for less severe overbites; significant overbites may require other treatment
Underbite Moves lower teeth back and upper teeth forward Mild cases can be managed; more pronounced underbites often need additional intervention
Crossbite Repositions teeth so upper and lower teeth meet correctly Depends on severity and which teeth are involved
Open bite Moves front teeth downward so they overlap properly when the mouth is closed Mild cases may respond; more complex open bites often need combined approaches
Teeth that shifted after previous braces Re-aligns teeth that have relapsed after earlier orthodontic work Often a good fit, as the original movement has already been achieved once

Not every case is suitable for Invisalign. Dr Abir Rammo assesses your teeth, bite, and jaw at your consultation to work out whether clear aligners can get you the result you want, or whether something else would work better.

Am I a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

Most adults and older teenagers with alignment concerns are potential candidates for Invisalign. A lot of the patients we treat are adults who want straighter teeth but do not like the idea of visible metal braces. There is no upper age limit, and it is never “too late” to straighten your teeth provided your teeth and gums are healthy.

The main factors that affect suitability are:

  • Severity of misalignment: Invisalign handles most crowding, spacing, and bite issues well. Severe or complex cases may need traditional braces or a combined approach.
  • Oral health: Active gum disease or untreated decay needs to be addressed first. Your teeth and gums should be in a stable, healthy condition before starting.
  • Compliance: Invisalign only works if you wear the aligners for about 22 hours a day. If you are not confident you can commit to that, it is worth discussing with Dr Rammo.
  • Missing teeth or dental work: Implants, bridges, or large restorations in the treatment area can affect how teeth move. This does not rule out Invisalign, but it needs to be factored into the plan.

If you have been told elsewhere that you are not suitable for Invisalign, it may still be worth getting a second opinion. Suitability can depend on the provider’s experience with particular case types, so a fresh assessment may be worthwhile.

To find out whether Invisalign is an option for you, call justSMILE at (02) 9159 3764 to book a consultation. You will receive a 3D scan and virtual preview of the expected result at your first visit.

Invisalign vs Braces: Comparing Your Teeth Straightening Options

If straighter teeth are what you are after, there are several ways to get there. Each option involves different trade-offs in terms of visibility, comfort, cost, and what it can treat.

How Invisalign compares to traditional braces
Factor Invisalign Traditional Metal Braces
How it works Removable clear aligners worn in sequence Fixed metal brackets and wires adjusted over time
Visibility Nearly invisible when worn Visible metal brackets and wires
Removable? Yes (for eating, drinking, brushing) No (fixed for duration of treatment)
Treatment time 6 to 18 months for most cases 12 to 36 months
Best for Crowding, gaps, and bite issues (most cases) All cases, including severe and complex
Impact on tooth structure May require temporary bonded attachments or minor enamel polishing (IPR) Non-invasive (no tooth preparation)
Indicative cost $4,500 to $9,000 $5,000 to $9,000

justSMILE also offers ClearCorrect as an alternative clear aligner system, which may suit simpler cases or tighter budgets. Dr Rammo can discuss which system is the better fit at your consultation.

How Long Does Invisalign Take? The Treatment Process

Invisalign treatment follows a clear sequence from consultation to completion. Most cases take 6 to 18 months of active treatment, though this varies depending on the complexity of your case.

Stages of Invisalign treatment from first appointment to retention
Stage Typical Timeframe What Happens
1. Consultation First visit Dr Abir Rammo examines your teeth, takes 3D digital scans, and discusses your concerns and goals. If Invisalign is suitable, a treatment plan is created showing the projected movement of your teeth from start to finish. You can see a virtual preview of the expected outcome before committing to anything. Costs and payment options are discussed.
2. Aligner fabrication 2 to 4 weeks after approval Your custom aligners are manufactured based on the approved treatment plan.
3. Fitting and attachments Second visit You receive your first set of aligners and instructions on how to wear and care for them. If your plan includes attachments, these are placed at this appointment.
4. Treatment (wearing aligners) 6 to 18 months You wear each set of aligners for 1 to 2 weeks, then switch to the next set. Aligners should be worn for about 22 hours per day. You visit justSMILE every 6 to 8 weeks so Dr Rammo can check progress and provide your next sets of aligners.
5. Refinements (if needed) Additional 2 to 4 months If any teeth have not reached the ideal position, additional aligners (refinement trays) may be ordered to fine-tune the result. This is a normal part of many Invisalign treatments.
6. Retention Ongoing Once treatment is complete, you transition to Vivera retainers to hold your teeth in their new position. Retainers are typically worn full-time initially, then at night only. Without retainers, teeth will gradually shift back.

Treatment duration varies between individuals and depends on the complexity of your case, compliance with wearing aligners, and how your teeth respond to treatment.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure rather than pain, usually most noticeable in the first day or two of a new set of aligners and then fading. Over-the-counter pain relief can help if the pressure is bothersome.

Occasionally, the edges of a new aligner may irritate your gums or cheeks. Orthodontic wax or a gentle smoothing with a nail file usually resolves this. Let Dr Rammo know at your next check-up if irritation persists.

Individual experiences vary. Discomfort is typically manageable and short-lived.

Living with Invisalign: What Daily Life Looks Like

One of the most common concerns about Invisalign is how it will fit into everyday life. Most patients say they stop noticing the aligners after the first week, and the main thing they notice instead is their teeth starting to look different.

Eating and Drinking

You remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. There are no food restrictions (unlike traditional braces), but you do need to brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in. This means meals and snacks require a bit more planning, particularly when you are out.

The 22-Hour Rule

Aligners need to be worn for about 22 hours a day to stay on track. That leaves roughly 2 hours for meals and oral hygiene. Most patients find this manageable once they get into a routine, but it does require discipline. If you regularly leave them out for longer than that, progress slows and treatment takes longer.

Cleaning Your Aligners

Rinse your aligners each time you remove them. Clean them daily with a soft toothbrush and clear, mild soap (not toothpaste, which can scratch the plastic and make them look cloudy). Avoid hot water, as heat can warp the aligners.

Speech

Some people notice a slight lisp when they first start wearing aligners or switch to a new set. This usually settles within a few days as your tongue adjusts. It is rarely noticeable to others, even in work presentations or conversations.

Attachments

Many Invisalign plans include small tooth-coloured attachments (sometimes called “buttons”) bonded to certain teeth. These give the aligners something to grip onto for more complex movements. Attachments are removed at the end of treatment.

Exercise and Sports

You can exercise with aligners in. For contact sports, remove your aligners and wear a mouthguard instead. Your aligners are not designed to protect your teeth from impact.

Risks and Things to Consider

Like any orthodontic treatment, Invisalign carries some risks. These are discussed before treatment begins, and we encourage you to ask questions so you can make an informed decision.

  • Compliance determines results: Invisalign only works with consistent, full-time wear and switching to new sets on schedule. Inconsistent wear leads to slower progress, extended treatment time, or compromised results.
  • Root resorption: Any orthodontic treatment (including Invisalign and traditional braces) carries a small risk of root resorption, where the tooth roots shorten slightly during movement. This is usually minor and detected on X-rays. In rare cases, it can be more significant.
  • Black triangles: As crowded teeth are straightened, small triangular gaps can appear between the teeth near the gum line. These spaces were always there but were hidden by the overlap. They can sometimes be addressed with bonding or interproximal reduction (IPR).
  • Tooth sensitivity: Temporary sensitivity during aligner changes is common, particularly to cold. This usually resolves within a few days.
  • Decay risk: Food particles trapped between your teeth and aligners can increase decay risk, so brushing before reinserting them is important.
  • Relapse: Teeth have a natural tendency to shift back toward their original position after orthodontic treatment. Retainer wear is essential to maintain the result. If you stop wearing your retainer, some degree of relapse is likely.
  • Limitations: Not all cases can be treated with Invisalign. Severe crowding, significant skeletal discrepancies, or complex bite issues may require traditional braces, surgery, or a combined approach.

Outcomes vary between individuals and depend on factors including the complexity of the case, compliance with wearing aligners, oral hygiene, and retainer use after treatment.

Invisalign Cost for Dover Heights Patients

Invisalign treatment at justSMILE starts from $4,500 for straightforward cases and ranges up to $9,000 for more complex treatment involving significant movement or bite correction. A mild spacing case or minor crowding tends to sit at the lower end, while cases needing 25+ aligners or bite work sit higher.

What affects the cost of Invisalign treatment
Factor How It Affects Cost
Case complexity More aligners and longer treatment = higher cost. A mild case may need 10 to 15 aligners; a moderate case may need 25 to 30+
Treatment tier Invisalign offers Lite, Moderate, and Comprehensive tiers based on the number of aligners needed. Lite is less expensive and suits simpler cases
Refinements Additional aligners to fine-tune the result may be included depending on your treatment tier
Retainers Vivera retainers are typically an additional cost and are essential for maintaining your result
Preparatory work If teeth need fillings, gum treatment, or extractions before Invisalign can start, these are additional costs

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign

Can I wear Invisalign only at night?

No. Aligners need to be worn for about 22 hours a day to move teeth on schedule. Nighttime-only wear does not provide enough force for the teeth to shift and hold their new position. Vivera retainers (worn after treatment is complete) can eventually transition to nighttime-only wear.

What if I lose or break an aligner?

Contact justSMILE as soon as possible. Depending on where you are in the treatment sequence, Dr Rammo may advise you to move to the next set early or have a replacement aligner made. Do not go without aligners for extended periods, as teeth can shift back.

Can I switch to Invisalign if I currently have traditional braces?

In many cases, yes. This depends on where you are in your treatment and the complexity of your case. Dr Rammo can assess whether transitioning to clear aligners is feasible at your consultation.

Does Invisalign work if I have had crowns or bridges?

Existing crowns and bridges do not automatically rule out Invisalign, but they can affect how certain teeth are moved. This is assessed during treatment planning, and the aligners are designed to work around any existing dental work.

Who can provide Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign can be provided by both specialist orthodontists and appropriately trained general dentists. Dr Abir Rammo (DEN0001302332) is a General Dentist and Diamond Level Invisalign provider.

How to Get to justSMILE Dental Clinic From Dover Heights

All About Dover Heights, NSW

Dover Heights is a coastal, eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales (NSW), Australia. It is known for its affluent residential areas and boasts stunning ocean views. One of the most famous points of interest is the Dover Heights Reserve, located at Dover Heights, which offers panoramic views of the Sydney skyline and the Pacific Ocean, making it a popular spot for picnics and sightseeing. Another notable park is Rodney Reserve on Dover Road, which also provides impressive views and recreational space.

For educational institutions, Dover Heights is serviced by schools such as Dover Heights Boys High School and Kesser Torah College, located at 56-58 Ocean Street. There are no major airports within Dover Heights itself; the closest major airport is Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, which is situated approximately 17 kilometers to the south, accessible via the major routes leading from the suburb.

The area does not host major highways, but it is well-connected by local roads. Military Road and Old South Head Road are two of the main thoroughfares that run through the suburb or along its borders.

As for government offices, local administrative services are overseen by the Waverley Council, located at 55 Spring Street, Bondi Junction, NSW 2022, rather than within Dover Heights itself. The suburb is predominantly residential, and commercial activities are primarily found in nearby precincts like Bondi Junction or Rose Bay.
