Traditional amalgam fillings were tough, rough and unsightly, with their mercury content potentially posing an environmental risk and raising health concerns. The benefits of modern tooth coloured fillings:
- Filling material can be colour matched to the exact shade of the surrounding tooth structure
- Modern filling material, unlike traditional amalgam fillings, creates a complete seal, preventing bacteria from causing further tooth decay underneath the restoration
- Tooth coloured filling material does not respond to temperature changes in the foods and beverages we consume, and so unlike traditional amalgam fillings will not cause the teeth to crack
- In some cases, filling material can be used to reshape crooked or misshapen teeth.
